Are some veternarians working with puppymills and giving sick pets a clean bill of health?

I was reading some information how some Vets claim the pet from the pet store/mill is well when it realy isnt?



When I get a pup and bring her to the vet of my choice, how will I know this Vet doesnt do the same? I cant very well ask if he works with puppy mills... well I could, but you know he wouldnt admit to that.



How do I go about finding a trustworthy and real Vet?Are some veternarians working with puppymills and giving sick pets a clean bill of health?Most vets are not like that..



though I did work with one a while back who was very very shady and did, needless to say I didn't work with her very long



Best thing when you are looking for a veterinarian is to go to the clinic, and meet the doctors- ask questions. Trust me, if it matters to you, it SHOULD matter to them.



Go where you feel comfortable.



Ask about vaccination policy, if they offer boarding/ grooming etc.



Ask to tour the clinic.



Granted- Not all places in the clinics are viewable- surgery- post op ( sometimes) etc. But you do have a right to know where your pet is being taken care of, what equipment and services the clinic offers.



The staff is also a good indication of the level of care and service you and your pet will receive.



No matter how wonderful/ gifted a vet may be- he/ she can only get you so far without the support staff like receptionists and techs who are caring, knowledgeable and efficient.

Unfortunately, there are some vets who are actually puppy millers themselves.



Check around your area, go to the vet clinics, talk to the vets and ask questions. Also, talk to people with dogs %26amp; ask for their opinions about the area vets. Some will like one more than someone else might. Ask questions about why.

Yes, definitely. People that buy dogs from a Puppymill or Pet Shop are often given a certificate for a free visit to THEIR Vet of choice.



There is a group of unethical vets out there that specifically work with Puppymillers to make SURE that dog will get a clean bill of health.



If you need a vet you can trust, talk to friends and neighbors that are long time pet owners and get references from them.



Also, please don't be offended that I used your video in my question - It's an EXCELLENT video that needs to be shared with the unsuspecting people on this site that have no idea what they're doing by buying from Puppymills or Pet Shops. You fully deserved the best answer and you clearly changed her opinion!



Edit - Thanks...Through education, we can all make a difference!Are some veternarians working with puppymills and giving sick pets a clean bill of health?sometimes you cant always tell.. parvo can incubate in a puppies system for 3-7 days before it shows signs of illness! Many genetic/congenital problems do not show up until the dog matures.



Yes some vets do work for the puppy millers.. some vets breed themselves. Many pet store puppies tho have NEVER seen a vet! The millers/petshop owners de-worm and vaccinate themselves.
