How can I find out information about a house that I am curious about?

There is an old house in the town that I am living in that has been vacant for a long time and it is an enigma to me. I love the place and the land that it is on is beautiful. Does anyone know how I can find information about it? Can I find info on the computer? Thanks! How can I find out information about a house that I am curious about? You might be able to find out some info on the computer, it's really going to depend on where you are and what exactly you want to find out. If you're looking for information about who owns the property, I'd suggest looking up your local tax assessor to see if they have a database. If they don't, you may be able to find out who they have listed as the owner by calling them. Yes, a title company search can tell you a lot about the property, but it may not be the information that you're looking for. Normally a title report (sometimes called a "commitment") will tell you about any open liens (mortgages, tax liens, unpaid contractors, etc.), easements, conditions and restrictions (for example, you can't have a fence more than 6' high in this neighborhood, that sort of thing). However, if you're looking for more of a history of the building (did any famous people live here, any exciting events, etc.), you'd probably want to check with the neighbors and/or the historical society. Hopefully this helps, Good luck! How can I find out information about a house that I am curious about?Unfortunately it will be difficult to do from the comfort of your home with computer. You need to go to the county's office of records and request details for that particular property (address and nearest intersection is all you need). It is public record (who owns it, who used to own it, assessments, etc) but public doesn't mean easy to obtain.

Another possibility is the local historic association who often keeps these records if it is a historic home. They may be closer and someone may have already done the work for you.How can I find out information about a house that I am curious about? If you know the address you can use http://www.zillow.com to find out details of most houses in major cities. It doesn't always have info on smaller towns but you might get lucky.

You don't have to sign up for anything, you don't have to pay anything.

Depending on where you are, you can contact the local title company who for a fee will give you the info. Or you can buddy-up to a realtor who will research it for you. The best way is to just go over and knock on a few doors. The information will be more valuable because it's not in public records.
