Because they don't realize that it requires work to keep a pet healthy. Why do people have pets and them decide they would like to get rid of them?i agree, Makes me mad too, I wish people would keep them.

I see people giving them away due to allergies, no money, they are moving or people having kids, that can no longer care for them, Which I think is really dumb! way too many pets that need homes already.

I wish there was a way to stop this, everyone should get their pets spayed or neutered too! Why do people have pets and them decide they would like to get rid of them?
Because some people probably think that they can take car of the pet but they can't so they just give it away. Or if the pet is just really naughty or wutever then the owners would probably give it away

Why do people have pets and them decide they would like to get rid of them?I completely agree with you. You cant have a kid and then decide you don't want it when you realize there is a little responsibility involved, isn't it the same?
i have a dog but i could understand why u would not like it but when u need someone to talk to they are always their. Why do people have pets and them decide they would like to get rid of them?
People only by pets just because they look cute. they don't think it's hard work. They don't know they must take care of their pet. Most people think if they get a pet everthing is going to be perfect. Some get rid of them because they peeed or pooped somewhere they shouldn't. They do not know how to forgive them and give them another chance. They should know the concequences of getting a pet befor they even bother. It is not like they will always be healthy. I mean even us humans do accidents when they are young and arne't always healthy. we always do mistakes too.
most people do not realize that pets are more than just pretty, and sometimes money is a big issueWhy do people have pets and them decide they would like to get rid of them?
They are greedy, thoughtless, self centered humans.
I have a friend who feels she SHOULD be a pet-person. Her image of herself is as a pet-person, but she so is not a pet person. After she adopts them they start driving her batty. I have one of her kitties right now. :) She didn't like the fact that the cat didn't come to her begging to be petted like the other kitty she adopted. Umm...cat? Hello? LOL She hates her new husband's dog. I think a lot of people adopt pets because they see themselves as "pet people," but then can't handle the committment or the rosy picture they painted doesn't turn out the way they thought.

I view adopting a pet as adopting another member into my family. The only way I would consider giving a pet away is if I found a member of my family was allergic (none, thank heavens!), if I found the animal was totally unhappy living with me, (didn't get along with my other pets for example), or if it was so old and/or sick that its quality of life was sheer misery with no way to help them medically. In the first instances I would do my very best to find a placement for them in a family that would suit them better.
Because so many cultures treat pets as "ANIMALS" not realizing it take a lot of care and money AND PATIENTCE to deal and train an animal.

Often they are uneducated and don't know the first thing aobut careing for an animal.

They think an animal is EASy and don't do research and are not committed to them... which you have to treat as if you have another child.

Hopefully people will become more educated.
Convenience and space are generally the overlooked issues of pet maintenance. People with a farm of acreage tend to be more flexible with the responsibilities of pets.

Urban dwellers tend to make the common error of presuming that pets are self sufficient. Few are. Even low maintenance pets (aquariums, birds, and cats require a minimum of care and space. Some pet owners still don't factor attention to pet details.

Most will make a responsible decision to relocate their pet.
Hi Louise,

Well people will buy a pet, dog, well any animal!

They are small, fluffy, cute but they are a living being, not a stuffed toy!

When the person discover they have a responsibility to look after this animal some can not accept the responsibility.

So through it away, well we both know what we would do to a person, like this, but neither of us want to end up in jail.

The only Solution I can think of is that people should have a license to own a pet.

Regards Keith
They probably thought that having the particular animal as a pet would be more enjoyable than it turned out to be.
