Is there a safe way to color a pets hair?

I know this would only work on a light colored animal (maybe only a white one) ...

We saw a lady on television that had colored her poodle pink. I think she said she used Koolaid and mixed it in with conditioner. Is that safe? If so, how long do you need to leave it in and do you need a special conditioner or is human conditioner acceptable? Is there a safe way to color a pets hair? The web site, groomer to groomer, interviewed professional dog groomers about coloring pet fur. One recommends a "semi-permanent product called Punky Color." Unsweetened Kool-Aid is another possibility, but, apparently, it washes out as soon as the dog gets wet.

Hair stylist Max Maddux agrees that only white dogs should be given dye jobs. Apparently, the dye doesn't work as well with darker pets. He recommends the brands Pravana, ManicPanic, Punky Color.

Of course, that's no guarantee the dog will like the dye job. Also, it's smart to check with your vet before you do the dying. Some dyes can be harmful and may hurt the dog.

good luck,

You can use a Kool-aide mixture to color the dog's fur. I am not sure on how to make the mix as far as how much water or anything but call a grooming salon and ask a groomer. I used to work for a groomer that did it but used human funky colors hair color which I don't suggest. Check with a groomer though they should be able to tell you the right way to do it.Is there a safe way to color a pets hair?I once bought some henna shampoo and was worried how red it would look so tried it on my Westie first. He went a very camp shade of pink but it didn't harm his skin or fur (and Westies are very prone to sensitive skin). Mind you, I was a teenager then and more interested in my own needs than those of my long suffering pet and don't think I would do it again! Is there a safe way to color a pets hair?
i dyed my own hair one day as my poodle sat watching me. i put some of the dye on the top of her head where she had a little poof, then rinsed it out in 10 minutes i just let it grow out without anything on it. do not do your animals whole body,or near its eyes, ears gentils etc or it could really irritate their skin. i have heard 0f using jello on hair and it does the same thing but without all the toxic chemicals. Is there a safe way to color a pets hair?Ask a dog groomer. I wouldn't think anything w/chemicals in it would be healthy because pets tend to lick themselves.
I havent heard of using kool-aid, but I do know that human conditioner is safe. I use it on my dogs!Is there a safe way to color a pets hair?
I "know a guy" who used spray paint on his neighbor's dog. That seemed to work just fine.
I dont think it would be safe at all to color a pets hair because it could possibly affect the pet.Is there a safe way to color a pets hair?
cool aid
For st patty's day I dyed my mini poodle green by mixing green food colouring into her shampoo and conditioner, leaving them on her for a few minutes each (3-4 mins). It worked great and washed off in about 3 baths. I recommend using animal safe all natural shampoo and conditioner since it is formulated specifically for dogs. And take care to keep it out of their eyes, ears, mouth and private parts. Food colouring is safe for humans to eat so definetly safe for your dogs skin. I don't recommend kool aid or jello though because there is sugar in it and your dog will end up all sticky and that may harm their skin. Have fun ! :)
