Im a just wondering if perhaps I have missed a good animal. I have a very old grandmother who doesnt have the strength to let an animal outside and will not clean up after puppies or cats. I cannot take care of this sort of thing for her either. Shes lonely though, and looking for a companion. Something that can take care of its self for the most part and still provides companionship is ideal. Any ideas? What are some good pets for the elderly?Perhaps and older cat or dog would be good. Many elderly individuals get seniors dogs/cats to keep them company. A dog would have to be let outside, but a cat would only really need a litter box cleaned every other day or so. If someone was willing to visit her and just scoop out the litter box, a cat would be a good choice.
There is really no other type of pet that requires minimal care. A bird needs attention and must be allowed to be out of their cage. They also need fresh fruits and veggies cut up every morning for them. Any bird that would make a companion(conures, medium parrots, cockatiels, etc) is going to need more care than even a dog or cat would. All other pets stay in a cage for the better part of a day(unless they are supervised). Anything needing a cage(which is everything but a cat/dog), is going to need that cage cleaned. What are some good pets for the elderly?birds are good pets they find their own food like the other birds outside think about it dream about it then you will see your old grandmother dosen't need to worry about the bird just dont put them in a cage if you put it in a cage it will dieWhat are some good pets for the elderly?Dogs are man's bestfriend!!! and also a bird would be nice!!!What are some good pets for the elderly?
A nice calm cat or dog. Have a pet door installed so the pet can go out into the back yard as needed. Your grandma may be old but you'd be surprised what a loving pet can do.
How nice that you are thinking of helping your grandma out of her loneliness.
