i Know some kids will love and look after their pets but you hear so often about dumped animals. Why do parents still buy the children pets at Christmas when they know the novelty will wear off by new year?No clue. Some parents just want to give their children whatever they want. They don't seem to care about the well being of the animal.
Personally, if I had children and they wanted a pet for the holidays, the ONLY reason I would get one, is if I wanted that pet myself, and I knew it would have a permanent home with me.Why do parents still buy the children pets at Christmas when they know the novelty will wear off by new year?
Because the kid pleads and begs, and promises they'll care for it..
I know of many breeders who don't breed during the festive season to reduce the amount of unwanted pets.
I'm one of the kids who want a pet for Christmas, and everywhere I've searched aren't breeding for Christmas. Why do parents still buy the children pets at Christmas when they know the novelty will wear off by new year?I work in a pet shop and its not just at christmas that the novelty of pets wears off. I have had 2 different families practically buy every pet I have at some stage only to return it after a short space of time. I get phrases like "Well its boring, it doesnt do anything", I mean what the hell were they expecting, something to do the washing up !!!Why do parents still buy the children pets at Christmas when they know the novelty will wear off by new year?
Because a lot of people are stupid. Why do parents still buy the children pets at Christmas when they know the novelty will wear off by new year?Because they want the child to learn responsibility, and it's the parent who wants the pet, and they really believe the child wants the pet.
I KNOW THIS ONE! When most people have children, it somehow sucks the brain cells outta 'em.
When my hubby and me are asked "why don't you have kids?", I tell them "we used to, but the dog %26amp; the cats were allergic to them". That question usually comes from new parents.
It is cruel to bring home puppies for Christmas, chicks and bunnies for Easter, etc. Unfortunately, they'll never learn.
No law against being an idiot. Why do parents still buy the children pets at Christmas when they know the novelty will wear off by new year?
Robert C does have a point BUT some parents just don't learn and still go a head and buy pets for children for xmas.
I breed rabbits and I make sure I don't have any rabbits for sale around xmas and easter, because of this reason.
Because they are stupid, unthinking, cruel people who treat animals not as LIVING BEINGS but as toys for amusement. Why do parents still buy the children pets at Christmas when they know the novelty will wear off by new year?
They don't realize pets are a resonibility. Children most likely will not take care of animals. They have "lives" and are too focused on other things. Honestly, I have not been mature until this past year (I'm seventeen now) to take care of my pets.
So...you think that all the thick and stupid parents have somehow died off during the year?
Not as sorry as I am!
I dunno, my parents would never buy me a pet for christmas, I have to wait till I move out and buy a pet on my own
Sadly, many people continue this proven mistake of a tradition because they are trying to over-compensate for feelings of being inadiquate parents because alot of them hold down one or two jobs and they feel like they are not meeting their childrens need for love and companionship. They really are not trying to do a bad thing but as we all know that any home where the responsible party (parent) is already taxed for time and trying to make ends meet is no place for a poor puppy (or kitty or gerble or anything with a pulse) to try and make a start in life.
They only thing that we can do is try and poin t this out tot them without being harsh or over critical because it is human nature to rebel especailly when people feel that their character is being put to the test.
