How do you change tax information that has already been filed?

My wife and I filed out taxes yesterday online. But she just got an unexpected 1099 today that we need to add. How do I change what I've already filed? Do I need to add an addendum or something?

Any information would be appreciated. How do you change tax information that has already been filed? You will have to file a 1040X (see form and instructions at www.irs.gov). The 1040X must be mailed in and will take 2-3 months to process. It is often recommended to not mail the 1040X until your original return is processed, usually 2 weeks after its filing.

With an additional 1099, you will likely owe a little bit more taxes and will include a check for that amount with your 1040X.
