Where can I find reliable information about becoming a vegetarian?

Lately I have found redmeat and sometimes poultry disgusting. Not in the way it's cooked but more like i'm losing a taste for it. I'm seriously thinking about becoming a vegetarian. I know about the lack of protein that some vegetarians have, but what are some other downfalls to being a vegetarian? What are some good things? Most importantly where can i find reliable information on becoming a vegetarian?Where can I find reliable information about becoming a vegetarian?a book that contains plenty of well-rounded information is "diet for a new america" by john robbins. it explains the myth about vegetarians not getting enough protein, why our bodies are not designed to handle animal products, and everything else you need to know about it. someone recommended 'the idiot's guide to being vegan'... that should also have a wealth of info.

vegetarians usually do not lack protein... unless they're eating nothing but junk food. protein can be found in almost all vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, and grains. even iceberg lettuce has protein. most people get too much because of all the hype surrounding protein.

i thought going vegetarian was one of the best health choices i've made... but then i became a vegan two months later and realized THAT was the best health choice. i've had more energy than i've had in a looong while.

i feel good knowing that i'm not supporting the greedy and selfish bigwigs that run the meat, dairy, and egg councils... and that i'm not supporting the death of innocent animals. i feel good knowing that i'm treating my body the best way. and i feel good about taking a stand against the environmental impacts factory farming has on the world.

best wishes! :o)Where can I find reliable information about becoming a vegetarian?

Go to your local public library, and you will find a lot of books covering the basics (and beyond) of veg nutrition. Most libraries also have cookbooks, so go ahead and check out a few and try the recipes in them to see if they are any good before you go invest in a $40 cookbook.

As convenient as the internet is, I'm more for trusting the printed word when it comes to something like my health, at least until I know enough to make judgment calls.Where can I find reliable information about becoming a vegetarian?I found these websites very helpful when i was "going" vegan

To answer your questions if you make sure you are getting proper nutrition (either by taking supplements or talking to a dietition) than there are no downfalls. There are plenty of ways to get protien as a vegetarian...Beans, Nuts, Peanut Butter, Soy Milk, Milk, The List Goes On....!

hope i helped

there's not really any downfalls about being a vegetarian if you eat healthy and make sure you get all the vitamins you need...sometimes vegetarians have a lack in iron and vitamin B12, too, but it's only because they're not careful enough. The good things is that you're healthier, you're helping the environment, you're helping animals, and you're not eating something as disgusting as processed guts...goveg.com is a great website. It explains most details of vegetarianism, and you can even order a free vegetarian starter kit. Well, good luck and hope you do decide to be a vegetarian. You'll be happier. I'd also recommend joining a forum for vegetarians- asking questions from other people in your situation is a great way to check information about food products, you can share recipes and get support from other people converting to a vegetarian lifestyle.
